I thought to capture beauty
And hide it in my breast

I tried to lure a sparrow
And keep it as my guest

I siezed a fair Monarch
But crushed it in my palm

And scared the little deer away
By preaching it a psalm

Beauty tried to dwell with me
But I was not at home

Sweet birds bid me sing with them
But I could only moan

Monarchs lighted on my hair
I ignored and didn't care

A doe gave birth before my eyes
But I did not then realize

How fleeting beauty is
